Description

Moodle is a free and open source learning management system. Developed on pedagogical principles it is used for blended learning, distance learning and other e-learning projects. One elements is Moodle Assignments which allows for assessment of learning outcomes during or following a student placement or internship.

Review

Moodle is used at many educational establishments for e-learning and other purposes. With specific reference to student placements and internships, the Moodle Assignments element can be used to easily assess learning outcomes both during and/or after a student placement or internship. For organisations already using Moodle, this is an obvious choice for assessment due to integration with our course modules and local assessment however if an organization is using another platform for e-learning, the barriers to entry could be quite high in terms of setup, hosting and staff/student CPD.

Key Strengths:

  • Free and open source
  • Is cross platform and can be used on desktop, web, tablet and mobile
  • Developed specifically for learning environments

Key Weaknesses:

  • Requires student on placement to have access to desktop, web, tablet or mobile and may incur data charges on student
  • Has to be hosted somewhere
  • May require additional teacher CPD
